These items belonged to my late aunt. I’m selling them as I have no one to leave them to and would like to see them go to a collector or appreciator.
These authentic, handmade, hand painted Japanese dolls were sent to her in July 1941 as a 1st birthday gift from her oldest brother, who was an English teacher in Shanghai. While living there, prior to WWII, he frequently visited Japan. It was during one visit that he purchased & sent the Kokeshi dolls to his baby sister (my aunt). He came back to the US after Pearl Harbor, only to return to visit Japan in the early 1960s. It was then that he obtained the English/Japanese dictionary.
The dolls are in very good condition. The dictionary has seen a lot of wear, but still has all of its pages.
DIMENSIONS: Both dolls are approx. 6” tall. Dictionary is about 4”h x 2”w.
